Bumps coverage from 7.16.0 to 7.16.1.

7.16.1

Version 7.16.1 — 2026-09-13

  • Fix: when the body of an irrefutable case (like case _:) is entirely excluded, the case line is now excluded too, just as an excluded else: body removes the else: line. Previously the case line was left behind and reported as missing. Closes issue 1563 with pull 2269.
  • Fix: using CoverageData.update() twice on an in-memory database would fail, as described in issue 2279. This is now fixed.

🤖 Claude Code Review

PR Review: Bump coverage 7.16.0 → 7.16.1

The change is a patch-level dependency bump in pyproject.toml. It touches the development extra (line 38) and the test extra (line 87), both on the python_version > '3.11' marker. The pin for Python ≤3.11 (coverage==7.10.7) is unchanged, which is correct.

Code Quality

  • ✅ Style conventions: The two edits keep the existing pin format and markers.
  • ✅ No commented-out code: None added.
  • ✅ Variable names: Not applicable.
  • ✅ DRY: coverage is pinned in two extras (development and test). That duplication existed before this PR, and both lines are bumped together, so they stay consistent.
  • ✅ Defects: None found. This is a patch release, and the version pins are consistent across both extras. I did not check coverage 7.16.1's release notes or whether it supports the Python versions this project targets.
  • ✅ .claude/CLAUDE.md: Not modified. Its content is general and has nothing specific to a local environment.

Testing

  • ✅ Unit and integration tests: None are needed for a dependency bump. CI should confirm the tests still pass.
  • ✅ Edge cases and coverage: Not applicable. This is a tooling-only bump, so there is no new code.

Documentation

  • ✅ README and API docs: No updates needed.
  • ✅ Inline comments: Not applicable.
  • ⚠️ CHANGELOG.md: Not updated in the diff. Dependabot bumps of dev and test tooling usually don't get an entry, and recent bump commits such as build and virtualenv appear to follow that pattern. Add an entry only if the project's convention requires one.
  • ✅ Markdown formatting: No Markdown files changed.

Security

  • ✅ Hardcoded credentials: None.
  • ✅ Input validation and error handling: Not applicable.
  • ✅ Sensitive data in logs: Not applicable.
  • ✅ License files (.lic) or AQAAAD strings: None in the diff.

Summary

The PR is low-risk and ready to merge once CI passes. The only open point is the CHANGELOG, which is optional under the project's existing convention.
