Bumps coverage from 7.16.0 to 7.16.1.

7.16.1

Version 7.16.1 — 2026-09-13

  • Fix: when the body of an irrefutable case (like case _:) is entirely excluded, the case line is now excluded too, just as an excluded else: body removes the else: line. Previously the case line was left behind and reported as missing. Closes issue 1563 with pull 2269.
  • Fix: using CoverageData.update() twice on an in-memory database would fail, as described in issue 2279. This is now fixed.

🤖 Claude Code Review

PR Review: Bump coverage 7.16.0 → 7.16.1

The change is a patch bump of coverage for Python > 3.11, in two places in pyproject.toml: the development group (line 38) and the test group (line 87). It is a pinned-version change only, with no code changes. I reviewed the diff alone and did not open any other files.

Code Quality

  • ✅ Style: the pins keep the existing format and the Python-version markers.
  • ✅ No commented-out code.
  • ✅ Variable names: not applicable.
  • ✅ DRY: coverage is pinned in both development and test, as it already was. Both pins were updated together, so they stay consistent. A shared group would remove the duplication, but that is out of scope here.
  • ✅ Defects: none seen. The <= 3.11 pin (7.10.7) is unchanged, which is correct because newer coverage releases require a newer Python.
  • ✅ .claude/CLAUDE.md is untouched. Its content is general and has nothing specific to a local environment.

Testing

  • ✅ No new functions, so no new unit or integration tests are needed.
  • ✅ Edge cases: not applicable.
  • ⚠️ Coverage percentage: not measurable from the diff. CI should confirm the test and coverage steps still pass with 7.16.1.

Documentation

Security

  • ✅ No hardcoded credentials.
  • ✅ No input validation or error handling is affected.
  • ✅ No sensitive data in logs.
  • ✅ No .lic files and no AQAAAD strings in the diff.

Summary

This is a low-risk, approvable dependency bump. Before merging, confirm CI passes on Python 3.12 and later.
