Bumps coverage from 7.16.0 to 7.16.1.

7.16.1

Version 7.16.1 — 2026-09-13

  • Fix: when the body of an irrefutable case (like case _:) is entirely excluded, the case line is now excluded too, just as an excluded else: body removes the else: line. Previously the case line was left behind and reported as missing. Closes issue 1563 with pull 2269.
  • Fix: using CoverageData.update() twice on an in-memory database would fail, as described in issue 2279. This is now fixed.

🤖 Claude Code Review

PR Review: Bump coverage 7.16.0 → 7.16.1

The PR changes pyproject.toml in two places. It bumps coverage for Python > 3.11 in the development group and in the test group. The two pins now match each other, and the <= 3.11 pin (7.10.7) is unchanged.

Code Quality

  • ✅ Style: the change is consistent with the existing pinned-dependency format.
  • ✅ No commented-out code.
  • ✅ Naming: not applicable.
  • ✅ DRY: coverage is pinned in both development and test. That duplication already existed, and both entries were updated together.
  • ✅ Defects: none expected. A patch release of a dev/test-only tool doesn't touch runtime code.
  • ✅ .claude/CLAUDE.md: not modified, and it has no environment-specific content.

Testing

  • ✅ No new functions, so no new unit or integration tests are needed.
  • ✅ No new edge cases.
  • ⚠️ I didn't verify the coverage percentage. CI should confirm the tests still run under 7.16.1.

Documentation

  • ✅ README and API docs: no update needed.
  • ✅ Inline comments: not applicable.
  • ⚠️ CHANGELOG.md: not updated. That is normal for automated dev-dependency bumps, so it's optional here.
  • ✅ No Markdown files changed.

Security

  • ✅ No hardcoded credentials, no .lic files, and no strings starting with AQAAAD.
  • ✅ Input validation, error handling and logging: not applicable.
  • ✅ The new version is a pinned patch release, which keeps builds reproducible.

Verdict

✅ Approve. This is a low-risk patch bump of a dev/test dependency. Merge once CI passes on Python 3.12 and 3.13, the versions that use this pin.
