Bumps coverage from 7.16.0 to 7.16.1.

7.16.1

Version 7.16.1 — 2026-09-13

  • Fix: when the body of an irrefutable case (like case _:) is entirely excluded, the case line is now excluded too, just as an excluded else: body removes the else: line. Previously the case line was left behind and reported as missing. Closes issue 1563 with pull 2269.
  • Fix: using CoverageData.update() twice on an in-memory database would fail, as described in issue 2279. This is now fixed.

🤖 Claude Code Review

PR Review: bump coverage 7.16.0 → 7.16.1

This PR is a Dependabot patch bump of coverage in pyproject.toml. It changes the development and test extras for python_version > '3.11'. I reviewed the diff only and did not run anything.

Code Quality

  • ✅ Style conventions: The change keeps the existing pinned == format and the Python-version markers.
  • ✅ No commented-out code: None added.
  • ✅ Variable names: Not applicable.
  • ✅ DRY: The pin appears in both the development extra (pyproject.toml:37) and the test extra (pyproject.toml:67). Both were updated together, so they are consistent. The duplication was already there.
  • ✅ Defects: None found. The python_version <= '3.11' pin (coverage==7.10.7) is untouched, which is correct because newer coverage releases drop support for older Pythons. This is a patch release, so the risk is low.
  • ✅ .claude/CLAUDE.md: Not modified. Its contents are general and have no local-environment specifics.

Testing

  • ✅ Unit and integration tests: Not applicable. No code was added.
  • ✅ Edge cases and coverage: Not applicable. Please check that CI passes on a Python version above 3.11, since that is the only version this pin affects.

Documentation

  • ✅ README and API docs: No update needed.
  • ✅ Inline comments: Not applicable.
  • ⚠️ CHANGELOG.md: Not updated. This is acceptable for an automated development-dependency bump, assuming the project does not log these. Confirm that matches its convention.
  • ✅ Markdown: No Markdown files changed.

Security

  • ✅ Hardcoded credentials: None.
  • ✅ Input validation and error handling: Not applicable.
  • ✅ Sensitive data in logs: None.
  • ✅ License files: No .lic files and no AQAAAD strings in the diff.

Summary

This is safe to merge once CI is green. It has no critical issues. The only open item is the optional CHANGELOG entry.
