Using the Scrum Board

NailLaraqui edited this page Dec 15, 2025 · 2 revisions

The scrum board is where we will be organizing our sprints. The board is separated into 3 views:

  • The global view: Shows every task in it's status column, allowing us to transfer the task from one to another and visualize the current state of the project.
  • The Current sprint view: Shows the current sprint tasks.
  • The Next sprint view: Shows the next sprint tasks.
  • The personal tasks view: Shows only the tasks assigned to you.

Gradually, views of past sprints will be added to the scrum board to better represent the progress of the project.

Adding Tasks

Here is a quick explanation of how to add tasks to the board.

  1. Go to projects on any of the views.
  2. Click on add item
  3. Name your task. Give a clear and concise title, ex: "Implement GitHub Authentication" or "Refactor ui folder"
  4. Define the properties ex: sprint number, task type, etc

Task Properties

  • Product Backlog: for user stories
  • Sprint Backlog: for the tasks to be done for a certain user story or just to be done
  • In Development: tasks currently being worked on by someone
  • In Review: tasks that are waiting for a review
  • Done: tasks that are done

Sprint

Simply the number of the sprint.

Task Type

One of the following:

  • Frontend: Anything related to view/UI
  • Backend: Anything related to business logic
  • Figma: Anything related to Figma mockups/wireframes/prototypes

Priority

  • P0 is currently essential to the app, should be finished this sprint
  • P1 is not essential, but still fairly important
  • P2 is additional, doesn't need to be done necessarily this sprint

Nature

Either a:

  • User story
  • Sprint task

Epic

The user story or feature this task contributes to.

Estimated and Actual time

Before doing a task give an estimate of how much time it will take you to finish the task. Once you've finished the task, simply give the actual time it took.

Sprint

The number of the sprint this task belongs to.

How to use it

  1. First write the user story in the Product Backlog column.
  2. After Deciding to Complete this user story in the current sprint set the Sprint parameter of the user story to the number of the current sprint and transform the user story into an issue.
  3. After this, divide the user story into multiple tasks in the Sprint Backlog, set their Sprint parameter to the number of the current task.
  4. When you start working on the task, transfer it to the In Development column.
  5. Put your PR into the In Review column.
  6. After your PR has been reviewed and merged, you can put the task in the Done column and don't forget to close the issue if it has not been done automatically by the merge of the PR.
