Office Status Slider

A 3D-printable office status sign. Status labels sit along a dovetail track on the plate, and a frame slides along the track to show your current status. It can also carry a name, printed on the plate or on a slide-in tag, or be a name sign on its own.

The page lets you design the sign in your browser and download print-ready STL files.

What you can change

  • Statuses: 2–12 labels with your own text and 49 icons (meeting, call, focus, lab, lunch, remote, travel, business trip, client visit, factory, stepped out, vacation, sick, editing, color grading, rendering, CPU load, reviewing, deadline, idea, writing, presenting, six mood faces, seven weather icons including a typhoon, and coins, a rising chart, a cat and a sparrow for how business is going). Click a status's icon for a grid of every icon, grouped like the ready-made statuses, to change it in one click, or pick from the ready-made statuses (English). Presets are whole designs: each sets its statuses, a look to go with them (shape, typeface, layout, text thickness and colors) and the Name tab (off, on the plate or a slide-in tag, with its letter height), and the name, text included: presets that suit a name bring a sample one (ALEX CHEN, ROOM 301, 王小明…) to replace with your own, the others clear it. The mounting, the size and the printer settings stay. Among them: office, hybrid, studio, lab, classroom, clinic and home sets, Mood (great to awful), Days of the week (MON to SUN; delete the days you don't need), Weather (sunny to snowy), and in Traditional Chinese a general office set, 剪輯師 (on the film strip; video editor: 剪輯中, 調色中, 算圖中, 審片中, 趕片中), 企劃 (on the glasses; planner: 發想中, 寫腳本, 開會中, 提案中, 勘景中) 心情 (超開心 to 崩潰), 星期 (週一 to 週日), 天氣 (晴天 to 颱風) and 生意 (a shop from 財源滾滾 and 大排長龍 down to 小貓兩三隻, 門可羅雀 and 喝西北風), plus Japanese.
  • Shape: 19 designs. Rail only is the default (just the rail, frame and the smallest back panel). Others: rounded, pill, Classic (English door-plate style with a raised double bead and serif lettering), Honeycomb (hexagon-perforated border, holes all the way round), arrow, lozenge, banner, pixel, cat ears, ticket, cloud, speech bubble, scallop, wave, arch, Film strip (sprocket holes through the plate along the top and bottom), Notebook (a spiral binding: punched holes along the top with rings looping over the edge) and Glasses (two wayfarer lenses set one layer below their rims, a bridge carrying the track, a nose notch and hinge stubs).
  • Rail width: the solid rail between the track and the plate's top and bottom edges is 4 mm by default (it was 6) and can be set on the Status tab.
  • How the base is built: the shape comes first, with the mounting's additions (the hang loop's eyelets), as one solid block as tall as the rails. The status track and the name tag's channel are then cut down into it as dovetail grooves, closed at the left end and open through the right edge. So the rails are simply what is left around the channels: they follow the outline on every shape, the sign has one flat top face, and cubicle hooks and desk-stand feet clip over its full thickness. A name printed on the plate, the Classic bead and the clipboard's clip sit on that top face. An optional bevel chamfers the top edge of the block.
  • Size: by default the plate fits itself to your text at the letter height you choose. You can also set width and height by hand. Either way it's checked against your printer's bed size.
  • Printer rules: set the nozzle and layer height at the top. Every height the printer builds layer by layer (plate, rails, lettering, tag, bevel steps, magnet pockets, the frame) is a whole number of layers, walls are at least two nozzle widths, and letters, frame bars and clearances have nozzle-based minimums, whether you drag a slider or type a value. A few settings go below zero: lean the stand forward, sink the frame below the rail tops (it never drops into its own dovetail), or hang the sign higher than the cubicle panel or rail slot. The name margin and the status text padding may go below zero too, to set the letters closer to the edges. If a change can't be built, a message explains why for a few seconds and the setting goes back to the last value that worked. Turn on Dynamic to drop the layer rule for adaptive layer heights.
  • Tabs: Shape (outline and how it mounts), Plate (bevel, size, margins, thickness), Status (the status track, label layout, lettering, the sliding frame and the track) and Name. The status track can be turned off for a sign with only a name.
  • Lettering: typeface (13 to choose from), raised or engraved. The status labels and the name each have their own thickness.
  • 3D view: a view cube next to the view buttons turns with the model; click a face for a straight-on (orthographic) view, and Reset view goes back to 3D.
  • Colors: the palette button on the 3D view sets every preview color in one place (plate, plate accent, status lettering, frame, name text, name tag) or applies a ready-made palette. The color pickers suggest common PLA colors, the presets and palettes use only those and never more than four per sign, the download dialog names each filament slot after the nearest common color, and a warning appears if a design needs more than four. The colors carry into the 3MF.
  • Second plate color: on the Plate tab, colored the way HueForge colors a print, by thickness: the second color fills the top layers of the plate, so the top face stays flat. One layer of it covers the top everywhere, and more layers under that make it stronger: everywhere (Top layer), towards the right (Gradient), towards the outline (Edge glow), or only on the shape's own details (the glasses' frame, the notebook's rings, the film strip's edges, the Classic bead). Where it is thin the plate color shows through. How fast a filament covers the color below depends on its transmission distance (TD): it hides it at about a tenth of its TD (AutoForge's model of HueForge's values). Enter your filament's TD or leave the typical value for the chosen color; the number of layers is then as many as full cover takes. Those layers can have their own layer height (0.08 mm, say, for more shades in the same depth); the print notes give the Z range to set as a height range modifier in Bambu Studio. Its layers hold both colors, so it prints on a multi-color printer (AMS). A lighter, more translucent color over a darker plate gives the longest gradient. The preview shades each step the same way.
  • Mounting: flat back (optionally with a recess for a tape pad), magnet pockets (size, count and distance from the ends), screw holes (hole and head diameter), desk-stand feet (the sign itself is not changed for them: behind the sign each foot rises the grip height up its back, in front as far as it can while keeping a set space from the track, so a sign with more plate under the track, like the film strip, gets a taller front lip; also the lean back or forward, width, how far each foot reaches in front of and behind the sign, the gap between foot and sign, and how many feet, 1 to 4), and how many feet (1 to 4); the feet may hold the solid rail under the track, so the sign only grows by what they cover beyond it), a hang loop (one or two eyelets above any shape), a cubicle hook (printed hooks, 1 to 4 of them, with a setting for the space between the hooks and the track below them, that clip onto the sign and hang over the top of a cubicle panel, like an upside-down J; set the panel thickness) Both cubicle hooks set the gap between hook and sign inside the clip, and how far two small ridges inside the clip bite into the sign on each face (a deeper bite makes a wider contact strip and a tighter hold; 0 leaves them off), so the hook does not wobble. Or a cubicle rail hanger for a C-shaped rail: each hook ends in a thin tab that goes through the rail's slot while you hold the sign up a little, then drops behind the lower lip and rests on the floor of the hollow behind it. It slides along the rail. Set the slot height (10 mm), the lip depth (1 mm), how far the hollow reaches past the slot (2 mm up and down) and its depth (1 mm). Shape and mounting work together: changing either one changes the final model.
  • Name: on the Name tab, off, printed on the plate, or on a slide-in tag: a separate flat tag in a 45° dovetail rail above the track, like the status track, so it prints without supports. The tag channel sits right above the track, so one rail separates them, which keeps the sign shorter; the track's rail height and the tag's thickness still set independently, and the tag has its own slide clearance. The tag rail height sets how high the rails' 45° holder rises. It is never lower than the tag; at the tag's thickness the holder just meets the tag's bevelled edges, and above it the holder keeps leaning in over the edges of the tag's top face (with a small gap) so the tag can't fall out. The band grows to match, so the name keeps its size. A name margin sets the space around the name. On Rail only, Classic and Honeycomb the tag is as long as the track; on the other shapes it follows the outline at both ends, so it is symmetric whenever the plate is, and the channel's closed end leans over the tag's bevelled end the same way, so the border is even all round, round corners included. It slides in from the right end, like the frame, and stops at the left end; drag it in the preview to see it move. Change the name, download again and print a new tag for the next person; the sign itself stays the same.

Printing

Download opens a dialog with a ZIP of every part, already oriented for printing with no supports needed, plus a README with print and assembly notes. The same dialog offers a single 3MF file with the parts laid out on your bed and the preview colors, for Bambu Studio, Orca Slicer and PrusaSlicer.

  • For a multi-color printer (AMS, MMU), load base_body and base_labels together as one object.
  • For a single nozzle, the page shows which layers to swap filament at.

To assemble, slide the frame into the track from the right end, the open end. There is no stop pin: the frame is held only by the fit of the dovetail, so don't push it past the last status. The name tag, if you made one, slides into its rail from the right end too.

Notes

  • The whole tool is the single file index.html. It works on phones too: the preview stays at the top of the screen while you scroll through the settings.
  • It loads three.js, Manifold and the label fonts from jsDelivr, so it needs an internet connection.
  • Copy design link saves your settings in the URL, so you can reopen or share an exact design.
