Taildrop Tools for Linux

Platform Nemo License

Taildrop Tools adds seamless Taildrop integration to the Nemo file manager on Linux Mint / Cinnamon.

  • Right-click any file → Send with Tailscale → pick a device → done
  • Auto-receive incoming files directly to ~/Downloads (no manual commands)
  • Supports sending up to 15 files at once
  • Fully encrypted via WireGuard — only works between your own Tailnet devices

Requirements

  • Linux Mint (Cinnamon) or any Ubuntu-based distro using Nemo file manager
  • Tailscale installed and logged in
  • zenity (auto-installed if missing)
  • python3 (pre-installed on most systems)

Install

Option 1 — One-liner (recommended):

git clone https://github.com/YOUR_USERNAME/taildrop-tools.git
cd taildrop-tools
bash install.sh

Option 2 — Download ZIP:

  1. Click Code → Download ZIP above
  2. Extract it
  3. Open a terminal in the folder and run bash install.sh

Sending Files

  1. Right-click any file (or select multiple with Ctrl+Click)
  2. Click "Send with Tailscale"
  3. Pick a device from the list
  4. Done

Maximum 15 files per transfer (Taildrop limit)

Receiving Files

Files sent to your machine via Taildrop are automatically saved to ~/Downloads within ~10 seconds. No commands needed.

To check the auto-receive service status:

systemctl --user status tailscale-receive.service

Uninstall

bash uninstall.sh

How It Works

File Purpose
tailscale-send.sh Reads selected files, queries online Tailscale peers, sends via tailscale file cp
tailscale-send.nemo_action Hooks into Nemo's right-click context menu
tailscale-receive.sh Polls every 10 seconds for incoming files via tailscale file get
tailscale-receive.service Systemd user service that keeps the receiver running in the background
