A usable, decentralized, portable, but not elegant way to save your progression after shutting down your media player. No internet required. No dependency on single device. Move your media files with your unique marks🐾 everywhere.

When will I need this?

• You are watching a video locally on your phone, but you are unsatisfied with your experience with it, so you decide to continue your journey with your video on your computer, or even on your VR devices.
• You are going to migrate your device, and you find your local player has saved your progression or some other interaction history elsewhere, fragmented in a mess ִֶָ𓂃 ࣪˖ ִֶָ་༘࿐ (you aren't sure if you are copying the right files because they are black-boxes).
• You are listening to a deep talk, but something interrupt you. You don't have time or even forget to save your progression manually. This situation has troubled you for a long time.

What does this project offer?

Conventionally, a file simply records facts with raw media loyally, but what does it mean to me? I have interacted with it, and how can I see my bonds with it safely? Can I leave something only belong to me on it?

Beginning with this idea, this project integrates your file with the bonds between the files and you into one single file. New File Extensions .dc* are created, where dc means decentralized.

As you wish, migrating with just one single file that evidenced your existence is enough. Just carry this .dc* file to seamlessly resume playback on any device equipped with VLC and the project script, without requiring an internet connection or having to manage a clutter of scattered files. One single file is sufficient.

Installation

For windows:

Firstly, install VLC via

store install xpdm1zw6815mqm

Then, set up a bat or cmd file

python DecentralizedPlayer.py %1

Use this bat or cmd file to open any media supported by VLC! A Decentralized file will be created for you. You can use this Decentralized file WITHOUT copying the raw media file to continue your focused mind flows and digital stories everywhere. E.g., you have example.mp4, this project will convert it into example.dcmp4 the first time you open it. Then, you can ignore or even delete the example.mp4 completely. Move one file is enough. No need to settle a mess of files.

Requirements will be automatically satisfied (they are: python-vlc, pynput), with one download.

Warm Up Usage

Terminate the media by Escape (fine-grained saving), or just closing it. Use Space or Enter to pause. Press Left or Right to control your progress by 1 second.
