Describe the feature you'd like

I would like for the downloader to set the modification date of downloaded files to the upload/created date of the file on the site.
There's the date right under the name on previews on the site, and in the details panel on every file, I'm not sure if subfolders have a date on them, but that should probably be ignored since every file downloaded technically is a modification of the folder...
For example "Created: 2/25/2026, 9:58:10 AM", but I'm also not sure if that's in local time, server time, or UTC...

Before considering implementation, I would like to better understand the practical advantages of setting the downloaded file’s modification date to the upload/creation date shown on the site. Could you elaborate on the specific use cases where this would make a significant difference (e.g., archival workflows, sorting requirements, etc.)?

There are also some cross-platform compatibility concerns to take into account. On Linux, for example, the modification date is generally not modifiable in a portable way.

If you can clarify the main benefits from your perspective, that would help evaluate whether and how this feature should be implemented.

Mostly for sorting/organizational purposes, but I don't see why it couldn't be used in the future with for example, an option to download a date ranges for massive folders instead of everything, which could be a large amount of files...

os.utime seems to work perfectly fine on python 3.12 on both ubuntu 24 with an ext4 partition, and windows 10 with ntfs, fat32, and refs at least, so I'm pretty confident that python handles the cross-platform aspect on it's own, never had any issues setting modification dates with wget, or even windows tools over smb either.

Anyway, it seems gofile already includes an accurate timestamp in GMT with in the last-modified header on the website too, so that might make it easier to implement?
