Agent: Adds an adapter-based package stats pipeline with npm as the first provider.\n\n## What changed\n- add a small provider interface and normalized package metrics schema\n- collect npm downloads for day, week, month, year, and complete history\n- collect latest package version and publish timestamp\n- support explicit YAML, environment, and CLI package configuration\n- add a provider-neutral Package Impact Remotion card and Pages render target\n- merge package metrics safely across multi-profile inputs\n- document the seam for a future PyPI adapter\n\n## Verification\n- pnpm verify\n- pnpm test:package\n- live npm adapter call for a scoped package\n- full-resolution populated card render inspected at 500x300\n\n## Dependency\nThis is stacked on the anonymous private aggregate metrics change in #12.

Walkthrough

The change adds provider-neutral package metrics to the v2 schema, implements npm statistics collection, supports YAML, environment, and CLI package configuration, wires metrics into collection output, and renders them through a new Remotion card.

Merge Risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to b6fd1

Package statistics generation can hang indefinitely when npm requests stall, and certain duplicate or empty package configurations can produce incorrect or missing metrics. These bounded correctness and availability issues should be addressed or explicitly accepted before merging.

Add a multi-range all-time download test.

This test needs only one all-time date range. It does not verify the 540-day split or summation for packages created before 2016. Add a case that returns distinct values for multiple ranges and asserts both requested boundaries and the combined allTime value.

Agent: Found and fixed a scale issue the earlier verification missed. Live-collecting a realistic 46-package list burst-tripped npm's rate limiter — 976 of ~1,022 downloads requests returned HTTP 429, and only 8/46 packages collected.

Root causes identified in d824c49:

  • npm's CDN (Cloudflare) answers 429s with Retry-After: 0, so the header is now treated as a floor on top of exponential backoff, never a replacement
  • no retry/backoff existed for 429/5xx or network failures (now 6 bounded attempts)
  • request starts are now paced (200ms) and package/range concurrency lowered to 2
  • downloads API 404s on published-but-never-downloaded packages (e.g. @parke.dev/pi-gauntlet) now count as zero downloads instead of failing the package

Verified live after the fix: 43/46 packages collect with real data; the rest degrade to warnings. pnpm verify passes (77 diffler tests, incl. new retry/404/pacing coverage).

Live collection of 46 packages showed the downloads API burst-limiting
nearly every request (976 HTTP 429s), and the CDN answers 429s with
"Retry-After: 0", so honor that header only as a floor on top of
exponential backoff. Also:

- retry 429/5xx and network failures with bounded backoff (6 attempts)
- pace request starts (200ms) so large lists do not trip the burst limit
- treat downloads API 404s as zero downloads for published packages
- reduce package/range concurrency to 2

Verified live: 43/46 packages collect cleanly; failures degrade to
warnings instead of aborting the run.
