Hi there, I'm Lavhelani Mano πŸ‘‹

πŸ‘¨β€πŸ’» About Me

I'm an Honours Computer Science student at University of the Western Cape, passionate about security and how systems can be broken and defended. I'm working towards becoming a Cybersecurity Engineer, securing systems, finding vulnerabilities, and helping build defenses against real-world threats. I enjoy solving CTF challenges, digging into how attacks work, and learning how to think like both an attacker and a defender. Outside of academics, I like Football and dancing.

πŸ” Currently Working On

I'm currently building my Honours research project, Evaluating Trust-Based Robustness in Heterogeneous IoT Networks, where I'm focused on whether behaviour-based trust scoring in IoT can be manipulated by protocol-compliant attacks. It's built using ESP32 sensor nodes, a Rock Pi gateway, MQTT (Mosquitto) and a Python Dash dashboard, and involves computing a Behavioural Trust Index (BTI) from live device traffic and testing it against replay, timing-manipulation and false-data-injection attacks.

πŸš€ Notable Projects

Spam-Classifier-Analysis-Project A Naive Bayes text classifier that separates spam from legitimate messages β€” the same detection problem that sits behind phishing filters. Tested across four train/test splits, it held above 83% accuracy. Tech stack: Python, pandas, scikit-learn

DaCypher A Streamlit cipher-missions game where players decode intercepted transmissions through progressively harder cipher schemes, with email and Google sign-in, hints, scoring and a persistent leaderboard. Tech stack: Python, Streamlit, PostgreSQL (Supabase)

Clean-Shield-dashboard A real-time environmental dashboard tracking PM2.5 air pollution, weather and glacier melt risk across South African cities. It won the Xylem Innovation Challenge 2025. Tech stack: Python, Streamlit, Plotly, Folium, OpenWeatherMap API

🧠 Currently Learning

  • Network Security & Penetration Testing
  • Web Application Security (OWASP Top 10)
  • Digital Forensics & Incident Response
  • Security Certifications (e.g., CompTIA Security+, CEH)
