☰ CritList for critical listening

CritList is a browser-based workflow for close listening, note-taking, and session-based annotation of audio material. It is built for people who need to mark moments in a track, compare sessions, tag recurring observations, and export those thoughts in a structured format.

Whether you are working through reviewing reference material, studying sonic detail, or documenting a listening session, CritList turns the act of listening into a clear, organized process. CritList is meant to be a useful companion for thoughtful listening: simple, flexible, and easy to keep close at hand while you work.

🎧 About

CritList is a lightweight Nuxt + Vue application designed to help you:

  • designed for local use without a server backend
  • load audio files directly in the browser, drag-and-drop audio
  • audio EQ controls for critical listening
  • create annotations while listening with typed categories
  • session-based annotation for multiple hear-throughs
  • import and export CSV data for reuse or further analysis

🎼 Usage

The app is built to support close listening tasks rather than automated analysis. It helps you structure your judgments, questions, and observations while you listen. It is 'typing-first', so the main workflow is accessible via keyboard (no need to switch to your mouse/pad).

  1. Start CritList on github-pages or build & open the local development URL.
  2. Drop an audio file into the interface or import a CSV session.
  3. Play the audio and add annotations by just typing.
  4. Assign annotation types to help organize your observations.
  5. Keep multiple listening sessions, export your notes, or combine sessions as needed.

⚠️ Disclaimer

CritList is a tool for organization, documentation, and listening support. It is not a substitute for professional judgment, calibrated monitoring, or formal audio analysis workflows.

This project is provided as-is for personal, research, and creative use. Audio playback and annotation workflows can vary based on the browser, OS, device, and file format. It is your responsibility to verify the accuracy of the data you create, export, or share.

Use it responsibly and keep backups of your work, especially when working with important sessions, archives, or exported annotations.
