Follow-on from #93: after that Error the engine is still running underneath, so tapping start again sets the UI to Starting, then the service hits the duplicate start guard and returns without broadcasting anything. Nothing ever corrects the UI, and it sits at Starting until you stop and start again.
The guard should re-broadcast the running state so the UI resyncs.
Filing so it doesn't get lost. I plan to fix it.
