Is it possible to use variables in the commit message?

Dear maintainers,

thanks for the nice action, works like charm.

One thing I did not find in the docs: Is it possible to use environment variables (or maybe even shell commands) in the commit message?

One older project at work used something like this as the commit message, with the date command obviously executed:

public created on $(date +"%Y%m%d_%H-%M-%S")"

Not totally necessary, but might be nice to have in some circumstances.

Hi, it's definitely possible: it's not really a feature of the action but of GitHub Actions as a platform. You can either generate the commit message in a previous step and export it as output/env var, or directly substitute values in the action step itself. The best way to do that depends on what you need to do: if you need to use shell commands it's probably best to generate it outside of the action step.
