A real desktop IDE forked from VS Code — with an autonomous coding agent built in.
AgentIDE is not a web app. It is not a browser IDE. It is not a Next.js dashboard.
It is a modified VS Code distribution running on Electron, compiled to:
AgentIDE.exe(Windows)AgentIDE.app(macOS)AgentIDE.AppImage(Linux)
| Feature | VS Code | AgentIDE |
|---|---|---|
| Autonomous coding agent | ❌ | ✅ |
| Local LLM (Ollama/llama.cpp/vLLM) | ❌ | ✅ |
| Self-debugging loop | ❌ | ✅ |
| Iteration Viewer | ❌ | ✅ |
| Benchmark Runner (10 problems) | ❌ | ✅ |
| Execution Sandbox | ❌ | ✅ |
| Full trace system | ❌ | ✅ |
| Episode memory (SQLite) | ❌ | ✅ |
| Cloud models off by default | — | ✅ |
Test the agent loop from the command line before building the full IDE:
./scripts/setup.ps1
./scripts/run-demo.ps1You'll get an interactive prompt. Try:
Enter Goal: Build BFS in Python
Target File: app.py
Watch the daemon plan → code → review → execute → debug → repeat.
# 1. Install monorepo dependencies
./scripts/setup.ps1
# 2. Clone VS Code 1.90.2 and apply AgentIDE patches
./scripts/clone-and-patch.ps1
# 3. Compile everything
./scripts/build-fork.ps1
# 4. Launch in Electron dev mode
./scripts/run-dev.ps1
# 5. Build distributable
./scripts/package.ps1 -Platform win32 -Arch x64AgentIDE/

No cloud account required. No API key needed.
| Provider | URL | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Ollama | http://localhost:11434 | Auto-discovered |
