Getting Started

Local Development

Prerequisites

  • Ruby 2.7+ with DevKit (Windows) or rbenv/rvm (macOS/Linux)
  • Bundler: gem install bundler

Install & Preview

# 1. Install Ruby dependencies
bundle install

# 2. Build and serve with live reload
bundle exec jekyll serve --livereload

# 3. Open http://localhost:4000 in your browser

Common flags:

Flag Description
--livereload Auto-refresh browser on file changes
--drafts Include _drafts/ posts in preview
--future Include posts with future dates
--incremental Faster rebuilds during development

Preview Drafts

# Create a draft
mkdir -p _drafts
touch _drafts/my-draft-post.md

# Preview with drafts enabled
bundle exec jekyll serve --drafts --livereload

Writing a Post

  1. Create a new file in _posts/ with format: YYYY-MM-DD-title.md
  2. Add frontmatter:
    ---
    layout: post
    title: "Your Post Title"
    description: "Brief description for SEO and previews"
    author: nehal

  3. Write content in Markdown
  4. Commit and push — GitHub Actions will deploy automatically

Deployment

The site automatically deploys to GitHub Pages on every push to main.
