release: v1.6.0 (candidate, DRAFT) - #113
Conversation
Version surfaces only: desktop/package.json, tauri.conf.json (bundle.publisher untouched), src-tauri/Cargo.toml, Cargo.lock (cargo check --offline; the check itself stops at the unbuilt sidecar resource, after writing the lock), backend/pyproject.toml, package-lock.json root version fields (2). docs/RELEASE_METADATA.md still names v1.5.0, so the release-governance tests (manifest/crate/pyproject version vs metadata) are EXPECTED to fail until the docs-only commit B. Source baseline: main 79dcf53. Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

Expected governance failures (PR CI, backend on ubuntu and windows): exactly 3 in tests/test_release_docs.py — manifests, Rust crate and pyproject say 1.6.0 while RELEASE_METADATA.md says 1.5.0 (3127 passed / 3126 passed otherwise). They clear with docs-only commit B. No other failure; frontend, cargo check, Linux package and clean-env checks pass.
Discrepancy: the Windows upgrade smoke on main upgrades from the published v1.1.0 installer (checksum-verified), not from the latest published v1.5.0 (the v1.5.0 baseline lives only in #101's workflow change). It passed (one registration, same location, clean uninstall) but is not the v1.5.0→v1.6.0 upgrade evidence. No acceptance counts are claimed; this run is a build/provenance record only.
Takes only the release-candidate.yml change of #101 (537cae9): the baseline installer is the published v1.5.0 (sha256 d443f64f5167239f1422c719882cf245cff5d00d40c55fb67fc5a1e497b84e82, matching the release asset, its SHA256SUMS and docs/RELEASE_METADATA.md), and the registration check expects DisplayVersion 1.5.0. Replaces the v1.1.0 baseline. A release candidate must be rebuilt after this change (Gate 2: only docs-only differences are allowed between the RC commit and the tag). Supersedes run 39341285656 / ea2fe17 artifacts (kept as history; v1.1.0 baseline, not the required upgrade gate). Later gates must use the bytes above only.
Governance (expected) failures only: 3× test_release_docs.py version-vs-metadata (backend ubuntu + windows); 3126/3127 other tests pass. No genuine failures.
Bed fit, the readiness "fits" check, the print-success estimate, first-layer footprint checks and the Scale Doctor judged the raw numbers stored in a 3MF mesh. A file that declares inch (raw 10x20x30 = 254x508x762 mm) or that rotates/scales its objects through a placement transform was reported as "fits" / ready / "likely". New geometry_basis.assess(path) decides whether the numbers are the physical size: the unit is millimetres in every model part, and every placed mesh (item and nested component transforms composed) keeps its axis extents (identity, translation, axis mirror). When not, every surface returns status not_checked with one shared reason and its own scope: bed_fit and first_layer unavailable, readiness check "not_checked" (blocks a green ready), predict_success likelihood null / band unknown (independent signals kept as facts), Scale Doctor preview fit None and options unavailable, mesh/insights carry the basis, the intelligence report and quality evidence stop presenting raw footprint. UI: Not-checked cards, Design Health bed-fit row and stability qualifier, raw-size qualifier on the dimensions line, Scale Doctor "Not checked". Mixed objects aggregate (one unchecked object makes the file not established). Unreadable transforms, unresolved or cyclic references and unreadable files are unknown, never fine. STL is unchanged (assumed mm). Volume/material/cost, declared-unit conversion and placed-size bed fit are NOT part of this change (mesh-honesty branch f92a064, #111). Provenance: independent implementation; unit/transform concepts and the repro fixtures follow fix/mesh-honesty-forum43460 @ f92a064 (dimension_units.py), no code copied from it. Based on release source a93a705; not applied to release/v1.6.0. Verified: backend pytest (new test_geometry_verdict.py 26 tests; before-change 24/26 fail on a93a705), desktop vitest 100 files / 1090 + SizeNotChecked 9, tsc, vite build. Opus and Sol both returned BLOCK on 17c2a5b. Closed: - readiness: the not-checked "Fits the print bed" check is added whenever the basis is not established, also when raw dimensions are unavailable (attribute order y,x,z), so ready cannot turn green. - identity tolerance 1e-3 -> 1e-5 (serialisation noise only): a 1.0009 scale or a tiny shear is no longer "extents preserved" and no longer yields an affirmative fit. - component references resolve strictly: an explicit p:path part must contain the object; a missing part or an id that only another part has is structure_unresolved, no cross-part fallback. - intelligence report: studio_score is withheld when a Doctor withheld its verdict, so a green 100/100 or a health-only score cannot headline an unestablished size. - basis returned to callers is a copy (cache cannot be mutated); canonical view carries the basis beside dimensions_mm; Design Health qualifier now covers the tip-risk wording too. Placement/layout for declared non-mm units (PlacementCard) stays outside this change: recorded as a limitation, not gated. Verified: 8 new tests fail on 17c2a5b and pass here; see commit 17c2a5b for the suites. Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…ust status, notes Docs/evidence only (README.md, CHANGELOG.md, docs/**); no code, manifest or workflow change. The in-app refusal wording still carries it (code, not changeable here) and is recorded as a known limitation. - Geometry limitations and "loading is not slicing" are recorded; harness commits are recorded separately from RC2 provenance. Verified: release-docs, evidence-consistency, public-claims, doc-truth and source-independence tests (120 passed); full backend suite 3184 passed + 1 stale count (fixed here) / 49 skipped. Align the walkthrough with the recorded acceptance checks.
The 1.6.0 record adds five upgrade checks to the 45 checks from v1.5.0. It does not record a size-verdict assertion. The checked-in harness also has no such assertion. The current wording can mislead a judge about what the 50/50 result verifies.

Snapmaker Studio v1.6.0 — release candidate PR (DRAFT)
Release PR for v1.6.0. Merge with a merge commit, not squash or rebase (the publish workflow requires the release-candidate commit to be an ancestor of the tag). Do not merge until every gate below is recorded.
Source baseline
mainat79dcf53970fd6ca600570128f8573030d169c162(includes #112 Phase 2, #108, #85–#90) plus commit A (ea2fe17), the v1.5.0 upgrade-baseline workflow change (a93a705, #101'srelease-candidate.ymlchange only) and the geometry-verdict correction (17c2a5b,ab507e5, below). Commit A: version bump only —desktop/package.json,desktop/src-tauri/tauri.conf.json(bundle.publisheruntouched),desktop/src-tauri/Cargo.toml,desktop/src-tauri/Cargo.lock(regenerated withcargo check --offline),backend/pyproject.toml, and the two root version fields ofdesktop/package-lock.json.Not in it: #100, #111, the held mesh-honesty branch and any other open PR. Release metadata, notes, CHANGELOG, README and TRUST_STATUS are unchanged (still describe v1.5.0) until the docs-only commit B.
Geometry-verdict correction (head
ab507e5)Studio's size-dependent verdicts measured the raw numbers stored in a 3MF mesh. A file declaring
unit="inch"(raw 10×20×30 = 254×508×762 mm) was reported as fitting, ready and "likely"; a build-item scale made insights and Scale Doctor disagree. Newgeometry_basis.pydecides whether the numbers are the physical size: every model part's unit is millimetres (or absent) and every placed mesh keeps its axis extents through its composed item/component transforms (identity, translation, axis mirror). When not, these surfaces returnnot_checkedwith one shared reason and their own scope, and never an affirmative verdict:bed fit, first-layer footprint, the readiness "Fits the print bed" check (blocks green ready, also when dimensions are unreadable), the print-success estimate (no probability; independent facts kept), Scale Doctor preview and options, the intelligence-report headline score, quality evidence, the strategy height signal. STL is unchanged. UI shows Not-checked cards/qualifiers.
Tests: new
test_geometry_verdict.py(34) andSizeNotChecked.test.tsx(10); the first set fails 24/26 and the blocker set 8/8 on the pre-correction code. Backend 3180 pass; desktop 1091 pass; tsc and vite build clean.Review: Opus + Sol both BLOCKED
17c2a5b(headline score, readiness without dimensions, 1e-3 identity tolerance, cross-part reference fallback); all closed inab507e5, and both returned APPROVE-WITH-NOTES on it. Optional notes were not actioned.Remaining limitations (not solved here): PlacementCard/layout still read raw coordinates and ignore declared units and transforms (#111); volume/material/cost with non-mm units (held mesh-honesty branch); rotated or scaled Orca projects show "not checked" and cannot reach green readiness; a near-identity scale can be labelled "rotated"; STL unit stays an assumption; installed-app behaviour of the new UI is unverified until acceptance.
Expected failures at commit A (governance, not defects)
docs/RELEASE_METADATA.mdstill names v1.5.0, so the release-governance tests are expected to fail on this commit until commit B:test_app_manifests_match_the_released_version,test_the_rust_crate_version_matches_the_released_version, and the pyproject equivalent (and anyversion_consistencycheck keyed to the metadata). They are the lint doing its job (manifests ahead of metadata); they are not weakened or skipped. Any other failure is a genuine failure and will be reported as such.Status
ab507e5(this head); the earlier candidatea93a705(RC run 39344562048, installer sha256f114c2d9…32d4) and its 42/50 and 50/50 acceptance runs are superseded and bind only those bytes.
