…rt, end and duration_seconds are present together or absent together, an empty window carries none, and no producer writes an instant it did not attribute to a line
§5's previous_window_end is absent when the previous window has none; §12.1 takes the envelope of the input that has one; §12.4 and §13.1 window objects are {} for a document with none. Schemas: document window requires only lines_observed and binds the three with dependentRequired; stability no longer requires previous_window_end; provenance and diff windows bind start and end to each other. Conformance tool: instants judged only where they exist, empty-extent reports an envelope on an empty window, dependentRequired findings name the missing companions; window-empty-equal-instants replaced by window-no-envelope and window-half-envelope (selftest 32/32, example CONFORMANT).

What
window.start,window.endandwindow.duration_secondsbecome optional as a unit: present together, or absent together when the producer attributes an event time to none of the window's lines (an empty window included). A producer MUST NOT write an instant it did not attribute to a line — a fixed year, an epoch sentinel, or the window's opening time. Why
Today the three are required, so a producer reading lines that carry no readable time (a yearless stamp it cannot place, a format with no timestamp at all) must invent one. The usual invention is the Unix epoch, which a reader cannot tell from a real
1970-01-01T00:00:00Z, and §12.1 then takes that value into a composedwindow.start, dragging a composed document's envelope back to 1970.Consequences, each stated in its section
startequal toend" to "no envelope".previous_window_endis absent when the previous window has no envelope.provenance[].window,current.window,previous.windoware{}for a document with none.dependentRequired); the empty-window relation stays with the window arm.window-empty-equal-instantsis replaced bywindow-no-envelopeandwindow-half-envelope.--selftest32/32, the example reads CONFORMANT.Breaking by the letter; under GOVERNANCE.md §2 (0.x) it is an editor merge and rides the unreleased 0.10.0. For the editor to judge and merge — not merged by the author.
