perf(dynamodb): merge writes into cached scan order; fix ExclusiveStartKey resume and S3 InvalidDigest - #2485
Conversation
…-sorting The per-table scan-order cache was invalidated wholesale on every write, so a Scan after any write cloned and re-sorted the whole table (sortScanResultsSized ~4.7% of the PGO profile). Puts, updates and deletes from every write path now append to a capped log, and the next Scan merges it into the cached order by binary-searching each touched key; an overflowing log or a bulk change (restore, rebuild, rollback) falls back to a full sort. Ordering, pagination and segments are unchanged; tests check every write type against a model, pagination across writes, segmented and GSI scans, and concurrent scans and writes. A write followed by a Scan on a 10k-item table drops from ~3.5ms to ~60us. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
BenchmarkE2E_SNS measures Publish through the router. Profiling showed SNS already signs once per publish and S3 already hashes parts in a single streaming pass, so these guard that behaviour: every channel's signature verifies against the signing certificate, and UploadPart ETags and Content-MD5 validation stay correct. Scan and Query with an ExclusiveStartKey whose item had been deleted restarted from the beginning. Paging now resumes at the first item after the key in scan/query order whether or not the item still exists, on the cached-order and linear paths (GSI/LSI, TTL tables, segmented scans) and for base-table and index Queries in both directions. Tests that encoded the restart behaviour now assert the resume position. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
…l bodies A Content-MD5 that is not valid base64 or does not decode to 16 bytes now returns 400 InvalidDigest; a well-formed digest that does not match the body stays BadDigest. Bucket-level PUT/POST requests (DeleteObjects, PutBucket* configuration) previously ignored Content-MD5 entirely and now validate it against the body. Validation is shared across PutObject, UploadPart and the bucket operations. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>

Add a deterministic base-table-key tie-break for index pagination.
Query sorting compares only the index sort key. Scan sorting compares only the index partition and sort keys. If the ExclusiveStartKey item is deleted, the fallback skips every remaining item with the same index sort key. The base-table key included in LastEvaluatedKey is not used to order those ties.
Use the same base-table primary-key comparator for index-result sorting and deleted-key positioning. Add a regression test with tied index keys, delete the item represented by ExclusiveStartKey, and assert that the remaining tied items are returned.

sortScanResultsSized(~4.7% of profiled CPU) came from every write invalidating the scan-order cache, so the next Scan re-sorted the table. Writes now append to a capped log that the next Scan merges into the cached order (fallback to a full sort on overflow or bulk changes). Write-then-Scan on a 10k-item table: ~3.5 ms → ~60 µs; 1k items: ~249 µs → ~15 µs (in-package bench). Ordering, pagination and segments unchanged; tests check every write type against a model, pagination across writes, GSI/segmented scans, and concurrent scans/writes under-race.BenchmarkE2E_SNSplus guard tests (signatures verify on every channel; UploadPart ETag/Content-MD5).InvalidDigest(wasBadDigest); bucket-level PUT/POST bodies (DeleteObjects, PutBucket* configs) now validate Content-MD5 at all.Every fix has a regression test shown to fail without it. Follow-up filed: stable GSI/LSI ordering for tied index keys.
