Summary

Add cross-platform one-command installation for major MCP-capable AI coding clients using a durable shared local runtime.

Supported targets

  • OpenAI Codex CLI + IDE extension
  • Anthropic Claude Code
  • Kimi Code
  • ZCode
  • Cursor
  • Gemini CLI
  • Windsurf-compatible user config
  • generic ~/.agents/mcp.json
  • project-scoped VS Code / Copilot Agent MCP config

User experience

macOS / Linux:

curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Afloat16/jev-mcp/main/scripts/install.sh | bash -s -- codex

Windows PowerShell:

& ([scriptblock]::Create((irm https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Afloat16/jev-mcp/main/scripts/install.ps1))) -Target codex

The bootstrap installs/updates a managed checkout at ~/.jev-mcp/runtime, builds it with locked dependencies, and points clients at the local Node runtime. Clients therefore do not depend on npm/GitHub at every MCP startup.

Credential safety

  • first setup uses hidden terminal input;
  • credential is stored only in local ~/.jev-mcp/.env by default;
  • AI client MCP configs contain no TypeSafe API key;
  • JSON configs are backed up before merge/update;
  • installer does not make a live TypeSafe API call.

Validation

  • Node 20/22/24 unit/type/build/doc/secret checks;
  • isolated Linux bootstrap smoke;
  • isolated Windows bootstrap smoke;
  • explicit assertions that generated client config contains no TypeSafe credential.

The earlier experimental npm Git-package execution path was removed after CI exposed an npm GitFetcher failure; the final design uses a durable local runtime instead.
