Part of #718.

1/(e^(5/2 i arctan(a x)) x^3) (Rubi's 5.3.6) was left unevaluated. Written algebraically, it puts a power of a polynomial whose coefficients share i, (i a + i a x^4)^3, below the bar. The rule for complex coefficients then expanded that power past the degree it reads.

  • The common unit. A factor whose coefficients are one complex number times reals now has that unit taken out as a power of its own before anything is expanded (ACommonComplexUnit).
  • A power of a quotient. The substitution for a root of a quotient now distributes a whole power of a quotient over its two sides, so the substituted integrand is one quotient.

The same change answers three rows of 7.4.2, 1/(e^(arccoth(a x)) (c - a^2 c x^2)^k) for k = 2, 3, 4. Master answers them NaN + C, and 2.5.0 left them unevaluated. The path on master that returns NaN + C is not removed here; these rows no longer reach it. k = 5 behaves the same: NaN + C on master, 1,409 characters here.

5.3.6:130 1/(e^(5/2 i atan(a x)) x^4) Unsolved Solved, 523 chars
7.4.2:690 1/(e^acoth(a x) (c - a^2 c x^2)^2) Wrong (NaN + C) Solved, 486 chars
7.4.2:691, ^3 Wrong (NaN + C) Solved, 893 chars
7.4.2:692, ^4 Wrong (NaN + C) Solved, 1,157 chars

Measured:

  • Pocket. All 5,313 corpus rows with i in them, plus the exponentials of atanh and acoth, branch against master 53a0fa42, with the moved rows re-measured on 0f840669. The five rows above are the only gains. The two other moves, 4.3.1.2:361 and 7.3.6:1174, behave the same on both arms re-run alone.
  • Chain. No moves on the per-family samples. The allocation gate passed. Suite: 15,566 passed, 0 failed. Calculus after merging master: 4,819 passed.
  • Unit test. AComplexUnitCommonToAPolynomialIntegralTest (5 rows) fails on master and passes here.

BREAKING entry: A complex unit common to a polynomial's coefficients is taken out before it is expanded. The 2.5.0 column was measured on the v2.5.0 package.

…expanding

A factor whose coefficients are one complex number times real ones, with any
product of symbols common to them all, gives that number up before the
complex-coefficient rule expands it: (i a + i a x^4)^3 is (i a)^3 (1 + x^4)^3.
1/(x^2 (i + i x^4)^3) expanded past the degree bound and was declined. And the
root of a quotient of linears distributes a whole power of a quotient in the
integrand it builds, which with a symbol in the linears came through as
(-i (u^4 - 1)/(a (u^4 + 1)))^(-3) and was not read. 1/(e^((5/2) i arctan(a x)) x^3)
and x^4 were left unevaluated (Rubi's 5.3.6:129 and :130).
