💡 What:
Optimized MicrotubuleTorus in components/QuantumScene.tsx using Three.js InstancedMesh (<instancedMesh>) to handle batch rendering of torus instances. Matrix transformations for each element are computed inside useFrame using a memoized THREE.Object3D dummy object and updated via setMatrixAt and instanceMatrix.needsUpdate = true.

🎯 Why:
Previously, rendering thousands of individual <mesh> nodes created significant GPU overhead due to an excessive number of draw calls (one draw call per cube, totaling 1080+ draw calls per frame for the scene). Utilizing InstancedMesh reduces rendering operations down to single instanced draw calls per torus component.

📊 Measured Improvement:

  • Draw Call Reduction: Reduced draw calls from ~1080 individual mesh draw calls to 2 instanced draw calls (plus lighting and scene overhead, total ~4 draw calls).
  • GPU Overhead: Eliminates WebGL draw call state-change overhead across 1080+ individual mesh components per frame.
