Feature Request: Spot Trading Support

Current State

The skill currently only supports perpetual futures (perps) trading on Hyperliquid.

Request

Add spot trading support in addition to perps.

Use Cases

• Longer-term holds without funding rate drag eating into returns
• Simpler mental model — actually owning the asset vs. leveraged exposure
• Lower risk for core positions (no liquidation risk)
• Better for accumulation strategies

Proposed Behavior

• spot-buy / spot-sell commands for spot markets
• spot-balance to check spot holdings
• Ability to choose spot vs perp when executing trades

Priority

Nice-to-have — perps work for now but spot would add flexibility for different trading strategies.

Analysis: Spot Trading for AI Agents

After researching the Hyperliquid SDK and evaluating the current skill, here's my recommendation.

TL;DR

Keep as low-priority nice-to-have. Perps are the right focus for AI trading agents. Full spot trading commands aren't worth the added complexity, but a small set of utility commands would be useful.

Why Perps Are Sufficient

• Agent value-add is in active trading — leverage, shorting, funding rate arbitrage, stop-losses, take-profits. These are the mechanics agents use to execute strategies. Spot is essentially "buy and hold."
• Coverage is already broad — 228+ native perps plus HIP-3 equities/commodities (TSLA, GOLD, etc.). Most spot tokens also have perps.
• Funding drag is solvable with better strategy, not a different market. The skill already has funding, funding-history, and scan commands that let agents be smart about when to hold positions.

What's Actually Worth Adding (Future)

Instead of full spot trading (spot-buy, spot-sell, etc.), a smaller utility-focused addition:

1. balances — View spot token balances (useful to check if funds are sitting in the spot wallet)
2. transfer — Move USDC between spot and perp wallets (usd_class_transfer in the SDK)
3. spot-tokens — Browse available spot pairs from spotMeta

This covers the practical scenarios (funds stuck in spot wallet, curiosity about available tokens) without building a parallel trading suite.

SDK Notes

The good news is the Hyperliquid SDK already supports spot natively — exchange.order() works for both perps and spot, just with different asset names ("BTC" vs "HYPE/USDC"). So if we ever want full spot trading, it's not a large lift. Asset IDs 10,000+ are spot pairs, and the SDK handles resolution automatically.

Key caveat: spot uses a separate clearinghouse and USDC wallet, so any spot implementation needs the transfer command as a prerequisite.

Recommendation

Close or deprioritize this issue. If spot utility commands become needed, they're a small add (~3 commands, minimal code). No need to build speculatively.
