This unofficial guide was rechecked against the current OpenAI Codex documentation. The official pages now resolve under learn.chatgpt.com/docs/codex; legacy developers.openai.com/codex/... links continue to work as entry points.

- Model examples updated: configuration and one-off command examples now use
gpt-5.6, the model shown in the current Codex configuration documentation. Older fixed recommendations forgpt-5.5,gpt-5.4-mini, andgpt-5.3-codex-sparkwere removed because model names, previews, and entitlements are time-sensitive. - Model-selection boundary clarified: the live OpenAI platform resolver returned
gpt-5.6-solon July 27, 2026. This guide explicitly distinguishes that platform result from the model options exposed in a particular Codex account or surface. - Desktop-app terminology refreshed: descriptions now call out that the current official documentation describes the ChatGPT desktop app as Codex, while retaining
Codex Appwhere it is useful for continuity. - Availability caveats made explicit: account rights, platform support, preview features, pricing, limits, and model choices are no longer presented as universal product facts.
- Source links expanded: the bilingual guides and this page now include the current latest-model guidance link and a dated refresh boundary.
The official Codex manual was fetched again on August 19, 2026. The official ChatGPT & Codex changelog records Codex CLI 0.148.0 on August 18 and the August 10–14 ChatGPT/Codex updates, so the bilingual guides and generated pages now include the following dated notes:
- Codex CLI 0.148.0: conversation export, session forks, archive/restore, startup prompt drafting, usage estimates, Bedrock Runtime routing, asynchronous MCP-capable Hooks, and reliability and sandbox fixes.
- Desktop context: Computer History, the Linux desktop preview, and importing supported agent setup and recent work are recorded with platform and regional caveats.
- Voice and projects: ChatGPT Voice can work with uploaded files and ChatGPT Projects.
- Library and search: saved files, broader search, and the 10,000-character paste-to-attachment boundary are recorded as dated ChatGPT behavior.
- GPT-5.6 and Work: the ChatGPT Sol/Luna model-selection update and ChatGPT Work usage visibility are recorded separately from Codex behavior and entitlements.
- Education and security: education Plugins, hosted Security progress and resumable scans, and Security Review are linked without treating access or versions as universal.

The repository now declares a session-start maintenance contract in the root AGENTS.md. For each future Codex session in this project, the current official Codex manual and linked OpenAI documentation must be checked before substantive work. Material changes are applied to both language guides, the HTML pages are regenerated, the source-check record is updated, and only the intended validated files are committed and pushed. No material change means no no-op commit.
This contract is executed during Codex sessions; it is not a background scheduler. A successful GitHub update also requires available Git credentials, network access, a clean or safely separable worktree, and verification of the remote commit.
This repository is a learning companion, not a replacement for the official documentation. It is consistent with the pages above and the August 10-18 delta as checked on August 19, 2026. For any operational decision, verify the current official product UI and documentation for the target account, workspace, region, and subscription.
The repository validator at tools/validate_docs.py provides a deterministic, offline maintenance check. It verifies that:
- the current delta has a dated source-check heading and an official source list;
- the English and Chinese update sections contain the same number of structured bullets;
- official URLs in those update sections are aligned;
- model and release markers that require bilingual parity appear in both guides; and
- maintained documentation does not contain generic template placeholders.
This validator checks repository evidence and structure, not live product availability or URL freshness. The official Codex manual refresh in the session-start contract remains the source-freshness gate.
