Dark Sepia or custom themes

What problem does this solve?

Lets the user choose a color scheme most comfortable for themselves.

I assume it's fine enough on an e-ink reader, but on a normal phone, the existing themes aren't nice to look at if you have sensitive eyes.

Proposed solution

Calibre's dark sepia would be nice, or having control over the parameters.

Alternatives considered

Choosing Sepia and turning on color inversion.

Thanks for the thoughtful request — and especially for naming Calibre's scheme rather than just "something darker". That made the fix concrete instead of a matter of taste. 🙏

Shipped as Dark sepia in #92: warm text on a warm-dark background, using Calibre's own sepia-dark values (#F6F3E9 on #39322B). It sits at 11.36:1 contrast — noticeably softer than the existing Dark, which is close to 19.6:1 — so it should be a lot easier on sensitive eyes than either Sepia or inverted Sepia. No more system-wide colour inversion, so your images and covers stay the right way round.

You'll find it in the same theme picker as the others, both in the reader's settings sheet and in Settings. It applies to right-to-left and vertical-script books too. One cosmetic caveat: hyperlinks still render cyan rather than warm — that comes from Readium's night mode and is already true of the existing Dark theme, so I left it alone.

I went with a fixed preset rather than full colour pickers for now. If more people want to dial in their own text and background colours, that's worth revisiting — feel free to open a separate issue if you'd like it, and say so if the specific pair here still isn't comfortable.
