This is due to:

One can put the offending line under a #if !MIN_VERSION_QuickCheck(2,15,0).
However, there is a next error:

Constructor ‘State.MkState’ does not have the required strict field(s):
maxTestSize :: Int

So, apparently there is a new field to fill in, one has to dig deeper to see what should go there.

But I won't anyway submit a PR while my existing one is ignored:

This is affecting nixpkgs now, as we're upgrading to Stackage LTS 24 and GHC 9.10. Looks like we'll start disabling some test suites…

Maintainers are @argumatronic, but she has no recent github activity, and @chris-martin, who is very active on github in general, so he might be able to act on this...

But maybe this package is obsolete as there are other test frameworks and it is ok to let it die.
@chris-martin What is your take on this?

Personally, I got here only because chell is used in the testsuites of system-filepath and system-fileio, but both are deprecated.

I'm okay to let it die; I picked it up at one point for the sake of helping generally preserve stuff and keep things building, but have no real interest in it, and no time for hobbies lately.

I guess I should resist the temptation to take it on, I am already involved in 2-3 other test frameworks.

Maybe we can open and pin an issue that this package is no longer maintained, and if someone wants to take over, contact you?
This would clearly communicate the status-quo.

Maybe as a last act you could merge my PR #6, which has been tested to work on my fork.

chell-quickcheck only seems to have two users on Hackage: gnuidn and system-filepath. Porting those test suites away from chell seems doable (hopefully their upstream agrees). chell in general has more users, but also a manageable amount it seems from a first glance.
