CircuitPython Remote 0.0.4

This release adds a local project workflow, wireless program output, and safer synchronization with CircuitPython devices.

What’s new

• Create a local project by downloading the device filesystem.
• Link a local VS Code workspace to a discovered device or direct IP address.
• Restore workspace-to-device links across VS Code sessions.
• Show the active project and linked device in the VS Code status bar.
• Sync selected new and modified local files to the device.
• Detect locally deleted files and optionally delete their remote copies.
• Review text differences before overwriting remote files.
• Keep settings.toml and deletion candidates unselected by default.
• Preserve remote directories during synchronization.
• Protect unsaved remote editors from overwrite or deletion.
• Show CircuitPython program output wirelessly.
• Reload and run the program over Web Workflow.
• Retry transient Web Workflow read failures with short delays.
• Improve remote action icons and move project Sync out of the remote toolbar.

Local project workflow

1. Connect to a CircuitPython device.
2. Run Create Local Project from Device.
3. Open the downloaded local folder.
4. Edit files locally.
5. Click the linked-project status item or use the Command Palette to run Sync Local Project to Device.
6. Review and select the changes to apply.

Sync is intentionally one-way from the local workspace to the device. Remote changes are not automatically merged back into the local project.

Safety notes

• Back up important files before testing synchronization.
• Remote overwrites and deletions require confirmation.
• File deletions are not selected by default.
• Sync does not delete remote directories.
• Write and delete operations are not automatically retried.
• The wireless output channel is not an interactive REPL.

Compatibility

Currently tested with:

• ESP32-S3-DevKitC-1-N8R8
• CircuitPython 10.2.1
• Web Workflow API v4
• VS Code on macOS

Other compatible CircuitPython boards and operating systems may work, but have not yet been verified. Feedback and test reports are welcome.
