The current approximation to templating (not yet complete) uses a mixture of kpt and yq. kpt supports post-instantiation updating, which is a key feature to retain. kpt only manages k8s api files, which is what currently requires another tool like yq. Ideally templating would be managed with a single tool that supports type-safety like cue-lang.
