The problem here is: does git treat Github releases and git tags the same way? If so, the release endpoints should be sufficient to deal with this issue.

Otherwise, the tags can simply be (even manually) pushed to the new remote.

Also, as it happens, the github package does not have any of the POST/PATCH endpoints implemented 😠 💢
