Subscriptions feed missing lots of videos; Videos and Live tabs on channels not working

This is just to let people here know there are two issues currently occurring for YouTube:

• If you do Subscriptions > All > Refresh lots of videos will be missing from the feed
• If you go to a specific channel, the "Videos" and "Live" tabs don't load; you get an endless "loading" spinner

This issue is being discussed here, on the parent NewPipe project:

Be aware that if the fix were to require an update for the NewPipe app being pushed out, then Tubular is
likely to remain broken, given it isn't updated very-often. If it's an extractor issue (the bit that is between
the app and YouTube itself), then Tubular should also start working again after their fix 🤞🏻

Here's a workaround:

From the settings menu, select 'Content', then scroll down to and enable the second-to-last-option 'Fetch from dedicated feed when available'.

This will switch from scraping the the web feed to the RSS parser. It provides less information, so after updating, you'll need to switch the setting back off, to return to the full feature set.

"Video" tab of channels aren't displaying any videos.

That same Issue is present in NewPipe and its fork, so Grayjay too!

Edit: Grayjay fixed that in some update, I just had to update the youtube plugin.

It's worth-noting that for @dlcarrier 's workaround, you can also perform it in a slightly-easier way:

In the YouTube > Subscriptions > All screen (the feed list), just tap the (?) icon in the top-right, then tap "Enable fast mode"

So... as an update, it's a bit-unclear where things stand.

NewPipe 0.28.7 was supposed to resolve the recent YouTube issues, but, if you use "slow mode" (or have "fetch from dedicated feed when available" disabled) then users are reporting that:

• Some videos don't appear in their feed
• Some entire channels fail to pull any new videos into the feed (you'll see something like "items not loaded: 5")
• If you visit any YouTube channel, the "Videos" and "Live" tabs don't load, and you just see the ⭕ loading-spinner

The workaround is to "Enable Fast Mode" (tap the (?) icon in the top-right of the YouTube feed), or go to Settings > Content and set "Fetch from dedicated feed when available" to on. (Confusingly, both of them do the same thing!)

"Fast Mode" / "Dedicated feed" though won't show how-long videos are in the feed; you'll see Shorts mixed-in with Videos within the feed; and some data, such-as likes/dislikes, comments or timestamps, might not always get downloaded for every video.

The following issues remain, even with the "Fast Mode" workaround:

• If a YouTube channel has an upcoming Live stream, you may get "Could not parse website" when visiting the "Live" tab
• Some videos are stuck at 360p

Oddly, in PipePipe (another "fork" of NewPipe, like Tubular), none of these NewPipe and Tubular issues are present:

• Videos aren't all limited to just 360p quality
• I don't get any error when visiting the "Live" tab of a YouTube channel that has upcoming live events
• You can download videos offline in any quality
• You can download just the audio of a video (this option is entirely missing even in the latest NewPipe as of now)

You will still need to enable the "Fetch from dedicated feed" setting to avoid some of those issues, and for people who
rely on the YouTube auto-dub feature that still seems broken (only English played on videos I know offer other language
dubs), but otherwise it seems far-less broken than Tubular and NewPipe currently are, so maybe worth a try...?

In short: switch to PipePipe, as virtually everything there is working (unlike Tubular and NewPipe). You can export all your current subs, playlists and history from Tubular, and import them all into PipePipe: see the second comment there for how to do that

You can download PipePipe either manually (the APK file) here, or if you prefer the F-Droid store, it's on there also

ℹ Update: as of the 0.28.8 update for NewPipe, all of these issues are now fixed.

However, they won't be in Tubular unless the developer were to return, and import their new code with the fixes. 🤞🏻

NewPipe doesn't have the 👎🏻Dislikes or 🛡SponsorBlock features, so anyone who likes them should look into BravePipe, LibreTube or PipePipe in the meantime. Just be warned that moving-back to Tubular in future could be tricky if you want to export everything (all your subs, playlists, history, watch-times and channel-groups) as some of those apps might use a different format Tubular cannot import. If you only care about your subs and nothing else though, you should be fine importing them back into Tubular later.
