Payload media requests cause massive pooling in database

I have a masonry component that fetches image URLs from a global config and when hosted on Vercel, only 5-6 images load and I get Error: cannot connect to Postgres: too many connections for role. I use @payloadcms/storage-uploadthing. I have tried messing with next config but that didn't help.
