swig 4.0.0 introduces large compatibility problems with binaries compiled using previous versions.
Often these versions are installed in a way that isn't obvious.

SWIG 4.4.0 (the major update that introduced the new v5 runtime module and the switch to heap types instead of static types) was released on October 20, 2025.
