Day 44 — Resend Email API Integration + Bull Queue for Async Processing

Goal: Email delivery stack ko Resend API के साथ Bull Queue based async job processing par stabilize karna.

Problem Identified & Solution

  • Direct API calls काम कर रहे थे पर reliable async queue pattern नहीं था
  • Job statusupdate emails immediate नहीं जा रहे थे, important notifications delay हो रहे थे
  • Solution: Resend API + Bull Queue (Redis-backed) = instant auth/payment emails + async job notifications

Highlights

  • Email Provider Migration: Resend API based standardization across services.
    services/auth/src/controllers/auth.ts
    services/payment/src/controllers/payment.ts
    services/utils/src/consumer.ts

    • resend package (v3.2.0) email provider ke roop me integrate kiya
    • Auth Service: Welcome, Login Alert, Password Reset emails (direct Resend calls)
    • Payment Service: Subscription Invoice (direct Resend calls)
    • Job Service: Application Status Updates (Bull Queue → Resend)
  • Bull Queue Implementation (Redis-based async processing):

    • Producer Setup:
      services/job/src/producer.ts

      • initEmailQueue() Bull Queue initialize करता है with Upstash Redis
      • publishToTopic() emails को queue में add करता है
      • Retry logic: 3 attempts with exponential backoff (2s initial delay)
    • Consumer Setup:
      services/utils/src/consumer.ts
      services/utils/src/index.ts

      • startSendMailConsumer() queue processing start करता है
      • 5 concurrent jobs process करता है simultaneously
      • Job success/failure logging with email ID tracking
      • Automatic failure retry mechanism built-in
  • Environment Configuration:
    services/auth/.env.example
    services/job/.env.example
    services/payment/.env.example
    services/utils/.env

    • RESEND_API_KEY=re_JMaXBpcm_EA9y4aFAEnNabRTxEvhQxxb5 सभी services में
    • REDIS_URL connection pooling + TLS के साथ Upstash support
  • Package Dependencies Updated:

    • Added: resend सभी services में
    • Added: bull (v4.11.5) job + utils services में
    • Already had: redis (v5.10.0) connection support
  • Key Fixes Applied:

    • Utils service startup में startSendMailConsumer() initialization add किया (पहले missing था)
    • Resend response structure fix: result?.data?.id for email tracking ID
    • Error handling improve की: Resend API errors + Bull Queue failures दोनों के लिए
    • Sender email update: onboarding@resend.dev (verified domain) सभी emails में

Architecture Flow (NEW)

Immediate (Auth/Payment) Flow:
─────────────────────────────
User Register/Login/Payment Event
  ↓
Auth/Payment Controller
  ↓
Resend.emails.send() [DIRECT/SYNC]
  ↓
Resend Instant Delivery
  ↓
Email in inbox within seconds

Async (Job Updates) Flow:
────────────────────────
Job Status Update Event
  ↓
Job Controller → publishToTopic()
  ↓
Bull Queue (Redis) stores job
  ↓
Return Immediate API Response
  ↓
Background: Utils Consumer processes
  ↓
Resend API delivers email
  ↓
Auto-retry on failure (max 3 attempts)

Email Flows Implemented

  • Auth Service (Direct/Sync):

    • Welcome email on registration
    • Login security alert on login
    • Password reset link on forgot password (15m JWT expiry)
  • Payment Service (Direct/Sync):

    • Subscription invoice on payment success
    • Includes: plan name, amount, expiry date, invoice ID
  • Job Service (Async/Queue):

    • Application status updates sent to applicants
    • Status: Submitted → Reviewing → Accepted/Rejected
    • Non-blocking: API response immediate, email sent background में

Deployment Checklist

  • ✅ Set RESEND_API_KEY in production environment
  • ✅ Ensure REDIS_URL points to working Redis instance (Upstash or local)
  • ✅ Auth/Payment services start with Resend initialization
  • ✅ Util service starts with Bull Queue consumer (startSendMailConsumer() called)
  • ✅ Test email sending: registration → welcome email should arrive
  • ✅ Test async emails: job status update → email in queue → delivered with retry

Tech Details

  • Resend API Response: { data: { id: "email_id_..." }, error?: null }
  • Bull Queue Format: Job ID tracking, timestamp, retry counter in Redis
  • Retry Strategy: Exponential backoff (2s → 4s → 8s) across 3 attempts
  • Sender Verification: onboarding@resend.dev is pre-verified by Resend
  • TLS Connection: Bull Queue supports redis-url with tls: { rejectUnauthorized: false } for Upstash

Cost & Performance

  • Resend: Free tier 100 emails/day, pay-as-you-go after
  • Redis (Upstash): Free tier 10,000 commands/day sufficient for queue
  • Queue reduces direct API burst issues during high traffic
  • Async processing prevents API blocking on high traffic

Day 45 — Comprehensive Admin Panel with Dashboard & Full-Fledged CRUD Operations

Goal: Admin panel को complete करना सभी management features के साथ - users, jobs, applications, payments.

Problem Identified & Solution

  • Admin को manually database query करना पड़ रहा था user/job/payment management के लिए
  • कोई centralized dashboard नहीं था metrics देखने के लिए
  • Solution: Complete Admin Panel with Super Admin Key auth + real-time dashboard + CRUD operations

Highlights

  • Admin Authentication (Super Admin Key):
    services/user/src/middleware/admin.ts
    services/job/src/middleware/admin.ts
    services/payment/src/middlewares/admin.ts

    • verifyAdmin middleware सभी admin routes पर protection provide करता है
    • Header x-admin-key से key verify किया जाता है environment से
    • Unauthorized access پर 403 error return होता है
  • User Management Admin Routes:
    services/user/src/controllers/admin.ts
    services/user/src/routes/admin.ts

    • GET /api/admin/users/all - सभी users paginated (search, role filter)
    • GET /api/admin/users/stats - total users, recruiters, jobseekers, subscribed count
    • GET /api/admin/users/role/:role - role के हिसाब से users
    • GET /api/admin/users/:userId - Individual user details
    • PUT /api/admin/users/update/:userId - User info update
    • DELETE /api/admin/users/delete/:userId - User deletion
  • Job Management Admin Routes:
    services/job/src/controllers/admin.ts
    services/job/src/routes/admin.ts

    • GET /api/admin/jobs/all - सभी jobs paginated with company info
    • GET /api/admin/jobs/stats - total jobs, applications, companies, hired count
    • DELETE /api/admin/jobs/delete/:jobId - Job deletion (cascade delete applications)
  • Application Management Admin Routes:

    • GET /api/admin/applications/all - सभी applications (status filter)
    • PUT /api/admin/applications/update/:appId - Application status update (Submitted/Rejected/Hired)
  • Company Management Admin Routes:

    • GET /api/admin/companies/all - सभी companies with job counts
    • DELETE /api/admin/companies/delete/:companyId - Company deletion (cascade to jobs + applications)
  • Payment Management Admin Routes:
    services/payment/src/controllers/admin.ts
    services/payment/src/routes/admin.ts

    • GET /api/admin/payments/stats - payment stats (total, active, cancelled, revenue)
    • GET /api/admin/subscriptions/all - सभी subscriptions paginated
  • Frontend Admin Pages:
    frontend/src/app/admin/page.tsx
    frontend/src/app/admin/login/page.tsx
    frontend/src/app/admin/dashboard/page.tsx

    • Admin login page: Super admin key entry के साथ
    • Admin dashboard: Real-time stats और quick navigation
    • User management page: Search, filter, delete, pagination
    • Job management page: View jobs, delete, pagination
    • Application management page: Status update dropdown, filtering
    • Payment management page: Subscription tracking, revenue stats

Architecture Flow

Admin Login:
────────────
User enters Admin Key at /admin/login
  ↓
Frontend verifies key by calling GET /api/admin/users/stats
  ↓
Valid Key → localStorage store + redirect to dashboard
Invalid Key → Show error

Admin Operations:
─────────────────
Admin clicks action (view/delete/update)
  ↓
Frontend sends request with x-admin-key header
  ↓
Backend middleware verifies key
  ↓
Authorized → Process request (stats/CRUD/delete)
Unauthorized → Return 403 Forbidden
  ↓
Response with data/stats returned
  ↓
Frontend displays/updates UI with pagination & filters

Statistics Flow:
────────────────
Dashboard loads
  ↓
3 Parallel API calls:
  - User Service: /api/admin/users/stats
  - Job Service: /api/admin/jobs/stats
  - Payment Service: /api/admin/payments/stats
  ↓
All responses merge करके dashboard render होता है
  ↓
Cards display: users, jobs, applications, revenue

Key Features Implemented

  • ✅ Real-time dashboard with aggregated statistics
  • ✅ Pagination support (limit: 10 records per page)
  • ✅ Search functionality (users by name/email, jobs by title/company)
  • ✅ Role filtering (recruiters vs jobseekers)
  • ✅ Status filtering (applications, subscriptions)
  • ✅ CRUD operations (Create permission not yet, Read/Update/Delete enabled)
  • ✅ Cascade delete (company → jobs → applications)

Deployment Notes

  • ✅ Admin key stored in .env (not committed to git)
  • ✅ All admin routes protected with middleware verification
  • ✅ Frontend redirects unauthenticated users to /admin/login
  • ✅ Admin key stored in localStorage for session (clear on logout)
  • ✅ Consider rate limiting for production
  • ✅ Consider IP whitelisting for production security

SQL Query Patterns Used

  • Template literals में parameterized queries with sql\...${param}...``
  • Pagination: LIMIT ${limit} OFFSET ${offset}
  • Filtering: Conditional WHERE clauses based on query params
  • Aggregation: COUNT(), SUM() for statistics
  • Cascade deletes: Manual foreign key deletion before main table deletion
  • JOINs: LEFT JOIN for relationship data (companies, jobs, users)

Day 46 — Multi-Format Report Generation + Issue Resolution

Goal: Admin dashboard me report export functionality (JSON/Text/PDF/Image formats) implement karna, bugs fix karna, aur final cleanup.

Highlights

Part 1: Multi-Format Report Generator Implementation

  • Report generator utility create kiya with 4 export formats.
    frontend/src/lib/reportGenerator.ts
    • generateReport() main entry point - format string accept karta hai
    • ReportData type define kiya dashboard stats ke liye
    • exportAsJSON() - machine-readable format me download
    • exportAsText() - human-readable format with formatted currency
    • exportAsPDF() - Professional document via jsPDF
    • exportAsImage() - PNG screenshot via html2canvas
    • exportAllFormats() - All 3 formats zip/sequential download
  • Dependencies add kiye: jspdf, html2canvas
    frontend/package.json
  • Admin dashboard dropdown menu create kiya with format options.
    frontend/src/app/admin/dashboard/page.tsx
    • JSON Format button with description
    • Text Format button (human-readable)
    • PDF Format button (professional document)
    • Image Format button (PNG screenshot)
    • Export All Formats button (combined download)
    • Loader state + toast notifications

Part 2: PDF Export Bug - Rupee Symbol Rendering

  • Problem: Rupee symbol ₹ rendering as &T&o&t&a&l&8 in PDF
  • Root Cause: jsPDF doesn't handle Unicode special characters well
  • Solution: Replace ₹${value} with Rs ${value} text instead
    frontend/src/lib/reportGenerator.ts
  • Status: ✅ FIXED - PDF exports now display correctly
  • Verification: PDF generated successfully with proper currency formatting

Part 3: Image Export Bug - Tailwind v4 oklch Color Incompatibility

  • Problem: "Attempting to parse an unsupported color function 'lab'" error when generating PNG
  • Root Cause: Tailwind CSS v4 uses oklch() color functions, html2canvas can't parse them
  • Attempted Fixes (all failed):
    1. Clone element + manually strip oklch colors - Still failed
    2. Add html2canvas options (allowTaint, foreignObjectRendering) - Still failed
    3. Set backgroundColor fallback values - Still failed
  • Why Unfixable:
    • html2canvas reads computed DOM styles which include oklch() functions from Tailwind v4
    • No way to bypass without abandoning Tailwind v4 or rewriting all CSS
    • Technical incompatibility not easily solvable without major stack changes
  • Final Decision: Remove image export entirely rather than maintain broken feature

Part 4: Complete Image Export Removal (Final Solution)

  • Removed html2canvas import from reportGenerator.ts
    frontend/src/lib/reportGenerator.ts
  • Deleted entire exportAsImage() function (60+ lines)
  • Updated exportAllFormats() to only handle JSON/Text/PDF (removed image)
  • Updated generateReport() function signature:
    • From: format: "json" | "text" | "pdf" | "image" | "all"
    • To: format: "json" | "text" | "pdf" | "all"
  • Removed image case from switch statement in generateReport()
  • Removed html2canvas from dependencies (no longer needed)
    frontend/package.json
  • Updated dashboard dropdown UI:
    • Removed Image Format button
    • Updated "Export All Formats" description from "JSON, Text, PDF & Image" to "JSON, Text & PDF"
    • Removed border divider above Export All button
    • Updated handler function to only accept 3 + all formats (not image)

Key Features Final Status

  • ✅ JSON Export: Machine-readable format - WORKING
  • ✅ Text Export: Human-readable format with formatted currency - WORKING
  • ✅ PDF Export: Professional document with "Rs" currency format - WORKING (FIXED)
  • ❌ Image Export: PNG screenshot capability - REMOVED (unfixable tech incompatibility)
  • ✅ Export All: JSON + Text + PDF batch download - WORKING (updated to 3 formats)

Admin Dashboard Updates

  • Report generation dropdown now shows 3 working export options + 1 batch option (4 buttons total)
  • All options have descriptive text and icons
  • Loading state prevents multiple clicks during generation
  • Toast notifications for success/error states
  • "Export All Formats" button provides combined download experience

Verification

  • ✅ No TypeScript errors in reportGenerator.ts
  • ✅ No TypeScript errors in dashboard page
  • ✅ No build errors
  • ✅ All 3 export formats tested and verified working
  • ✅ Dashboard UI responsive with new layout

Technical Insights

  • Tailwind v4 + html2canvas incompatibility: Observable with oklch() color parsing failure
  • jsPDF unicode handling: Prefers text substitution over special symbols
  • Pragmatic solution: Better to ship 3 working formats than 4 with 1 broken
  • Dependencies cleanup: Removed html2canvas@^1.4.1 to reduce bundle size

Day 47 — Redis Optimization + Nodemailer Migration + Code Cleanup

Goal: Redis quota exhaustion fix (Bull Queue removal), Resend → Nodemailer migration, cleanup of dead code and unused dependencies, complete system optimization.

Highlights

Part 1: Redis Quota Crisis Identification & Resolution

  • Problem Identified: 11,000+ Redis commands/minute consuming Upstash free tier quota
  • Root Cause Analysis: Bull Queue background polling with 5 workers at 50+ commands/min each + 40 reconnection loops = 11k/min baseline
  • Solution: Complete Bull Queue removal from ALL services
    • Removed from Auth service: producer.ts, app.ts imports, package.json
    • Removed from Job service: producer.ts, app.ts imports, package.json
    • Removed from Payment service: Bull Queue references
    • Removed from Utils service: queue imports
  • Result: ✅ 0 background Redis commands

Part 2: Email System Architecture Refactor (Resend → Nodemailer)

  • Problem with Resend: Sandbox mode only sends to verified email addresses
  • Solution: Migrate to Nodemailer with Gmail SMTP via centralized Utils service endpoint
  • Updated Auth Service (services/auth/src/controllers/auth.ts):
    • Removed: import { Resend }
    • Added: sendEmail() utility function using axios → utils email endpoint
    • Updated: registerUser() to send welcome email via Nodemailer
    • Updated: loginUser() to send login alert via Nodemailer
    • Updated: forgotPassword() to send password reset link via Nodemailer

    • Removed: import { Resend }
    • Added: sendEmail() utility function using axios → utils email endpoint
    • Updated: paymentVerification() to send subscription confirmation via Nodemailer
  • Utils Service Email Endpoint (services/utils/src/consumer.ts):
    • Centralized Nodemailer setup with Gmail SMTP
    • POST /api/utils/send-email endpoint: accepts {to, subject, html}
    • All emails now work for ANY email address (no verification needed)
  • Result: ✅ All email flows work universally

Part 3: Complete Unused Dependencies Cleanup

  • Auth Service:
    • Removed: bull (dead code)
    • Kept: redis (actually used for password reset tokens)
    • Result: ✅ 0 unused packages
  • Job Service:
    • Removed: bull, redis (queue code removed)
    • Result: ✅ 0 unused packages
  • User Service:
    • Removed: bull, redis (never used queue)
    • Result: ✅ 0 unused packages
  • Payment Service:
    • Removed: bull, redis (queue removed, Razorpay doesn't need Redis)
    • Result: ✅ 0 unused packages
  • Utils Service:
    • Removed: bull, redis, resend (all dead code)
    • Result: ✅ 0 unused packages

Part 4: Dead Code & Unused Imports Removal
