The QUERY method is brand new.

The RFC 7231 does not mentioned it.

htmx-4 has the hx-action and hx-method attributes which could help.

Have to think about if this should go in htmx 4 or not. going to take a little time for CDN, middleware and backend frameworks to adopt it as well. the new hx-method almost supports it out of the box already except there is a verb validation guard right now that breaks it working which could probably be removed.

It is more about consistency than anything else.

I think that this belongs in HTMX 4. More frontend things supporting QUERY will drive the CDN, middleware, and backend frameworks to implement it sooner. Easy enough to put a disclaimer on the documentation that it might not be fully supported across CDN/middleware/language standard libraries/backend frameworks.

I think hx-action and hx-method are nice but shouldn't be relied upon or the recommended way of using the QUERY method. It's a standard HTTP verb now in the process of implementation so it belongs with the other hx-[method]. hx-query is good. Unless that's just simply the direction HTMX 4 is going with I guess.
