Questions about wiring RP2040 Scorpio

I am using a Feather RP2040 SCORPIO and SK6812 SPI RGBW 5V strips. I am using a dedicated Dell Mini PC to run HyperHDR.

I downloaded the "Adafruit_Feather_RP2040_Scorpio.zip" and uploaded the "HyperSerialPico_sk6812Neutral.uf2" to the RP2040.

I wired it up as pictured utilizing GPIO2.

I have configured HyperHDR exactly as it states here.

I can't get it to work. Occasionally the first LED on the strip will light up with a random static color. Otherwise all the LEDs remain off.

Take another closer look at the instructions: Scorpio, with its dedicated firmware, doesn't use GPIO2 because the outputs (opposite the USB port on the other side) handled by its level shifter have a different address. Therefore, the pinout is also wrong.

Does this mean I need to change "CMakeList.txt" to set a different pinout? Such as GPIO16?

If I need to edit "CMakeList.txt", is there a write up on how to do so?

One more question. Is it possible to use a second LED strip with one RP2040 Scorpio? My first LED strip is going under my TV stand, and the second one I want to put around my TV.

I figured I would wire the second strip to GPIO17 and make a new instance in HyperHDR. I am just not sure how HyperHDR would know to send the two different signals to GPIO16 (under TV stand strip) and GPIO17 (around TV strip)

Once I complete this project, I plan to make a write-up to help other people like me who are less DIY savvy complete similar projects!

I'm glad it worked. I think it's doable: HyperSerialPico will essentially do all the work, as long as you compile it correctly with REVERSE=OFF (edited) and with segment breaks after the first (and longer) strip. It will address the appropriate LEDs on GPIO16 or GPIO17. You'll have some fun with HyperHDR, as the LED geometry wizard doesn't support such configurations out of the box, but: if you've already configured the first segment on the TV, in the second instance, configure what the second strip (the one under the TV) should look like. Then copy its JSON configuration (only LEDs area definitions) and paste it into the first instance's JSON configuration in the advanced settings to join them (ask ChatGPT, Copilot, or Gemini to verify how you're connecting them if you're not familiar with JSON format; you can even attach files there). Later, you can delete the second instance and everything will work on one, and HyperHDR will see both strips as one continuous "virtual" strip.

Hi. Didn’t want to create a new topic, so will ask here. I also have Adafruit Feather RP2040 Scorpio and now on final step collecting components. Wanna order btf-lightning SK6812 12V 60 LEDs/m. My TV is 65 inch. 144x83. Summary around 455 cm and in the result around 270 LEDs or a little smaller in practice. The question is - does it worth it doing for this 2 segments ? If yes - does that mean, that I need to order 2 LEDs around 3m and not one 5m cause of power supply connection ? Thanks

With a single segment, you will reach a maximum of approximately 90 FPS (due to NeoPixel protocol speed limits), which is enough even for our new RGBW protocol with adaptive dithering. Since it's already difficult to maintain anything more stable than 100 FPS due to system constraints, there is little point in pushing for a multi-segment setup here.

Big Thanks for your support! So, I need to order 2 copies of 2.5-3m LED strips cause of power connection this way? (As I understand, I recieve a LED strip with prepared power cords, and I only need to connect it to power supply. If I will buy one strip - the second part will not have those power cords? So the second strip needed? I may be wrong). And I also read about HyperSPI. I am a little noob now, which type of connection is better for my setup ? Using HyperSerialPico or HyperSPI?

You can start with HyperSerialPico and always upgrade to HyperSPI later. If you order a 300-LED package, you usually get two connections: one at the beginning and one at the end (keep in mind one plug is male and the other is female, but these can be cut off and remaining connected cables can be used with for ex. wago).

If you have basic soldering skills, it doesn't really matter because you can split and join the strips however you like. Otherwise, you can use corner connectors, like the ones I recently reviewed on my blog.

For your setup, you should have two power injection points (at the start and the end) and one data connection (at the start). When joining the strips, make sure all the arrows on the LED strip are pointing in the same direction.

Sorry, first time don’t understand correctly. So, this is enough in my setup using the whole 1-segment strip(with corner connectors from your blog), but the power injection from 12V power supply should be at the start and at the end of the strip. Data to Adafruit from start. And also GND to Adafruit from start if I understand all correctly. Thanks.

Yes, it'll be enough unless you want to increase 90FPS to 100FPS with multisegment (IMO it's not worth it in this case).

Or from the power supply which provide this GND to the led strip - as you like.
