Define official product licensing and Proudly Made criteria #23

Description

@mastertape

Goal

Define the concrete access requirements for official OpenParcelBox product licensing and the future Proudly Made for OpenParcelBox mark.

Context

OpenParcelBox allows commercial use of open components under their licenses, but official use of the OpenParcelBox name, logo, certification marks or compatibility claims requires separate written permission.

A future Proudly Made for OpenParcelBox mark should be a real predicate, not a loose marketing phrase. It should only be granted when the OpenParcelBox-relevant foundation is open source, open hardware or otherwise reviewable enough for users and maintainers to inspect, repair and reproduce the essential parts.

Draft scope

Define criteria for:

  • official OpenParcelBox products
  • official OpenParcelBox variants
  • OpenParcelBox Compatible claims
  • Proudly Made for OpenParcelBox mark
  • required documentation and repository visibility
  • open source / open hardware requirements
  • spare parts and repairability
  • local basic operation without mandatory cloud
  • security and safety review expectations
  • correct packaging, device, website and documentation mark usage
  • revocation or expiry of marks if requirements are no longer met

Acceptance criteria

  • A draft policy section exists for official product licensing.
  • A specific criteria list exists for Proudly Made for OpenParcelBox.
  • The policy clearly separates open source license rights from official brand/certification rights.
  • The policy defines what vendors may say before approval and what requires written approval.
  • Open questions for legal review are listed explicitly.
