From 3c13c8ffffaef1623132f9d279b4bbf23fa47a17 Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001 From: Dmitry Ilyin <6576495+widgetii@users.noreply.github.com> Date: Sun, 4 Oct 2026 22:51:32 +0300 Subject: [PATCH] sysupgrade: say what --kernel, --rootfs, -k and -r take on each layout The help said --kernel takes a uImage and --rootfs a squashfs. The kernel can also be a FIT (cv6xx) or zboot.img (Rockchip). On a UBIFS NAND camera (root=ubi0:rootfs) the rootfs is rootfs.ubifs and carries the kernel: -k and -r both write it, and --kernel on its own is refused with a pointer to --rootfs. The help now says so. --- general/overlay/usr/sbin/sysupgrade | 9 +++++++-- 1 file changed, 7 insertions(+), 2 deletions(-) diff --git a/general/overlay/usr/sbin/sysupgrade b/general/overlay/usr/sbin/sysupgrade index 9342b5121..f82471b27 100755 --- a/general/overlay/usr/sbin/sysupgrade +++ b/general/overlay/usr/sbin/sysupgrade @@ -2414,10 +2414,15 @@ Usage: $0 [options] Where: -k Update kernel from online repository. -r Update rootfs from online repository. + On a UBIFS NAND camera the kernel is inside the + rootfs, so -k and -r both write rootfs.ubifs. --url=[URL] Custom URL to update from (.tgz format). --archive=[FILE] Custom archive to update from (.tgz format). - --kernel=[FILE] Update kernel from file (uImage format). - --rootfs=[FILE] Update rootfs from file (squashfs format). + --kernel=[FILE] Update kernel from file (uImage or FIT; zboot.img on + Rockchip).
