improve error message on failed SSL connection to server

I can connect to my server using http://, but it won't work with https://. PokéDL refuses to save the account credentials and reports a "wrong URL?" kind of error message. Could there be a more "speaking" answer in terms of debug information?
using: SSL from Let's encrypt & CyanogenOS 13.1.4 (Android 6.0.1), the kernel version is
3.10.49.

The error handling definitely needs improvement; in the meanwhile, can you confirm that the ssl certificate you are using on your dl server is valid? If it works with http but not with https and you are positive that the server is accepting requests via https this could be a problem with your certificate and the android ssl backend is refusing to connect to your server.

Nevermind, we found out that the problem is the http client backend not supporting SNI on your android version - since development of the one im using right now seems to have stopped, i will migrate to a new one which should then fix the issue.
