macOS Desktop shows “Inspect Element” context menu when Cap is running

Description

When Cap is launched on macOS, the Desktop/Finder becomes unresponsive to normal mouse input. Right-clicking on the Desktop shows a WebKit-style “Inspect Element” menu instead of the Finder context menu.

This occurs immediately on launch, even when Cap is not recording. Quitting Cap instantly restores normal behavior. Relaunching Cap reproduces the issue.

This appears related to Accessibility / Input Monitoring hooks not being released correctly.

Same issue. Installed from the website about 10 minutes ago. It felt like it hijacked my screen. I couldn't get past the loud splash screen to even try the app. I couldn't click on the Get Started button. Every app I tried to focus on lost focus. Took me 5 minutes to figure out how to get it to quit so I could use my computer again.

I thought it was just me, I got the issue on both the arm and intel version of the mac app.

I thought it was just me. I couldn't click anything and for the first time, I restarted my mac. But then, I pressed command + space and then I was able to access File Menu at the top to quit 😅

Hey @david-loe did you re download it from the website? I grabbed the latest just now from the website and still running into it (apple silicon) version. New to opensource/this project so sorry if its a dumb question ha!

Hey @davidgaribay-dev, the issue is still present in the current binaries; the fix has only been merged into the source code. It should be resolved in the next release, which likely won’t be too far off given the severity of the problem.

Hey everyone, posted an update about this in the Cap discord.

There was a regression in 0.4.4 causing the initial loading of the app to become blocked. This should be fixable by hitting ESC once the app first loads, but it's not right.

0.4.5 will be releasing in the next few hours and will be much more stable. Apologies for the inconvenience. We'll do better. Putting better systems in place with testing to make sure new releases are more thoroughly QA'd.

The download button in the version page for 0.4.3 is downloading the 0.4.4 the wrong version
