This is quite annoying and can lead to huge waste of disk space. Something I've done for the other thing I've been working on is storing external downloads in "global" download folder separate from the post/mod/whatever which contain the links to those files. This is a good solution, but there needs to be a simple way of seeing which "globally" stored files are being referenced by mod.
